International Conference on Research Infrastructures (ICRI 2012) will take place under the auspices of the Danish Presidency of the European Council. ICRI 2012 is co-organized by the Danish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Higher Education and the European Commission. This will be the seventh major Conference on Research Infrastructures, and for the first time the Conference will address an international audience.
Selected keynote speakers and contributors at the ICRI 2012 conference are:
Morten Østergaard, Minister for Science, Innovation and Higher Education, Denmark
Neelie Kroes, European Commissioner, Vice-President, Digital Agenda
Connie Hedegaard, Commissioner for Climate Action, European Commission
Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, European Commissioner, Research & Innovation
Dan Shechtman, Professor, Technion, Israel Institute of Technology, The Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2011, Israel
Flemming Besenbacher, Professor, Chairman of the Carlsberg Foundation, Denmark
Robert-Jan Smits, Director General, DG for Research & Innovation, European Commission
Following the European conferences (ECRI) which started in 2000, this will be the first to address an international audience on how global research infrastructures can respond to the Grand Challenges: lessons, priorities and future directions. ICRI 2012 will provide important input to the European strategy and to the implementation of the next EU Framework Programme "Horizon 2020", supporting the strengthening of a global ecosystem of research infrastructures.
Conference will make specific recommendations on how international cooperation on research infrastructures can be more effective in the future. This may include calling for a coordinated support and strengthening of existing initiatives, highlighting possible needs for additional efforts, and developing a vision of open science.
