Welcome to the 30th General Conference of IARIW in Slovenia – Dobrodošli!

Research in income and wealth as well as development of the system of economic and social accounting shall noticeably enrich not only the knowledge, indispensable in academic and public debates, but also policy-makers who have to make sound policy decisions in order to improve the society and decrease the social inequalities.

The recent social and economic challenges can best be tackled only with joint research of a variety of experts, i.e. researchers on national and household income and wealth, accountants and income distribution statisticians – the opportunity for discussion on these themes arises with the 30 th General Conference of the International Association for Research in Income and Wealth which will take place in Slovenia.

The Conference will cover several themes, such as: measuring economic well-being in a rapidly changing globalized world, problems of ageing societies, mobility of people, statistics in the national accounting system and many other issues on measuring well-being, health or non-market services. Sessions and themes have been determined in advance and are stated under the heading Call for Papers

The organisation of the 30th General Conference has been entrusted to the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia. As the most enchanting place for fruitful discussions of the participants Portorož, the main tourist centre of the Slovene coast, has been selected for the second time - namely, Portorož hosted IARIW conference 48 years ago!

We believe the programme of this Conference will launch vivid discussion among the participants and we anticipate that it may provide some new ideas. On the other hand we can assure you that your families, who accompany you, will enjoy their stay in Slovenia which on its almost 20.3 thousand km2 offers numerous different geographical regions: the Alps, the Dinaric range, the Pannonian plain and the Mediterranean with the coast of the Adriatic sea.
