Abstract:
Good research data management in the phases of data creation and data storage enables better future utility for data producers and other researchers. The new guide “Preparing Research Data for Open Access« is meant for all data producers who want their data to be stored in a data center. The guide is divided into the three chapters. The first chapter deals with evaluation of data according to how useful they could be for other researchers and what general benefits of open access are. The main chapter leads the researcher through the basic phases of data management. It defines data management tasks in the phases of planning and data creation. Then a case of the Social Science Data Archives is described to show how to deposit research data in a data center. At the end of the chapter, the benefits of open data as scientific publication are presented. In the last chapter, researchers are provided with information about the further support in data management. The Data Seal of Approval Guidelines are included at the end of the guide, presenting the criteria required to be met by data producers, data centers and data users to achieve high quality research data management.
