This will comprise an introduction to the theory and practice of realist evaluation methods. It
will deal with the evaluation of individual initiatives, reviews of past studies, and good
practice guidance for policy and practice. Participants will be presented with a range of
examples and will be asked to take part in exercises that relate to the design of realist
evaluations. Time will be set aside for those attending to raise questions about evaluation-
related research projects which they are planning. By the end of the course attendees should
have a working understanding of realist evaluation models and methods of their application.
Examples will be drawn principally from crime, child development, health and education.
