The workshop will explore various dimensions of trust, including personal and institutional trust, through a combination of theoretical insights and hands-on SPSS data analysis using European Social Survey data. Participants will analyze trust levels across different countries and age groups, with a particular focus on young people. By examining patterns in social trust, political trust, and interpersonal trust, they will gain a comprehensive understanding of trust dynamics and the factors shaping them in different societies.

In addition to deepening their knowledge of social trust trends, participants will enhance their skills in using SPSS for data analysis, and applying it to real-world datasets. The session will conclude with an engaging discussion, fostering critical thinking as participants share insights, challenge assumptions, and broaden their perspectives on trust and its role in social cohesion and governance.

Outcomes:

  • Participants will develop a deep understanding of social trust dynamics across different countries and age groups, with a special emphasis on young people.
  • They will strengthen their proficiency in SPSS for data analysis, applying it to real-world social trust datasets to uncover meaningful patterns.

About the speakers:

May Doušak is a researcher and teaching assistant at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ljubljana. His research focuses on survey methodology and the use of informatics in social research, with a particular emphasis on developing new instruments and approaches for cross-cultural comparative studies. He has also worked on detecting undesirable interviewer behavior, designing innovative electronic questionnaire devices, and developing the ESS bibliographic application. In addition, he is a member of the national team for several major projects, including the International Social Survey Programme, the Slovenian Public Opinion survey, and others. He primarily teaches courses in informatics and programming and possesses extensive skills in both computing and research methodology.

Živa Broder is a Senior Administrative Officer at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. She is involved with the Public Opinion and Mass Communication Research Centre at the university. Broder has a strong academic background, having completed a master’s thesis on the trade union movement in Slovenia from independence to the present. Her work often intersects with social research, particularly in the context of public opinion and social dynamics in Slovenia.
