One of the pillars of the Slovene-based network of emergency services is
the availability of emergency medicine specialists. Due to waning interest in
this residency and the entry of new generations into the labour market, it is
crucial to identify their perspectives on the residency of emergency medicine.
It is vital to create an environment that will be welcoming to future
generations of medical professionals and, therefore, will enable enough
specialists to ensure that emergency medical treatment is efficiently provided
to the citizens of Slovenia. To propose systemic solutions that would increase
interest and enrolment in emergency medicine residency, researchers from the
Faculty of Medicine at the University of Maribor prepared a questionnaire and
conducted a survey on the entire population of students in the academic year
2022/2023, as well as doctors (interns, doctors doing secondary training and
in-house doctors), who have not yet taken a residency
decision.
The sample included 2143 people, of which 1920 were students
and 223 were doctors. 679 respondents filled out the questionnaire.
