As part of the DIGI DR project (Strengthening digital citizenship competences), an extensive survey on young people’s use of digital technology and their experiences in the digital environment was conducted between March and May 2025. A total of 3,451 young people completed the online survey, including 1,903 students in the final three grades of primary school (Grades 7–9) and 1,548 students in secondary schools.
The survey addressed various aspects of digital citizenship, including the use of digital technology and social media, ways of disconnecting from the digital world, experiences of inappropriate and harmful content, cyberbullying, and feelings of being overwhelmed by the use of digital technology. A dedicated section on cyberbullying also included questions from the Odklikni (2018) study (https://doi.org/10.17898/ADP_NADLOS18_V1), enabling comparisons of young people’s experiences over time.
The findings provide comprehensive insight into young people’s behaviour, experiences, and challenges in the digital environment. They also offer an important basis for developing digital citizenship competences and designing appropriate support measures to promote safer and more responsible use of digital technologies.
The survey data are available as separate datasets in the Slovenian Social Science Data Archives (ADP).
