Year of the study: 2013

Keywords: holidays, yugonostalgia, Slovenia, Yugoslavia, cultural values, cultural identity

The study deals with cultural practices, dimensions, and ideological meanings of the three most popular former Yugoslav holidays in contemporary Slovenia. These are the Youth Day (25 May), the Day of the Republic (29 November) and the Anniversary of the Death of Josip Broz Tito (4 May). The purpose of the study was to determine, in what form these three former holidays are being celebrated today, and what kind of meanings and political consequences they have in the contemporary Slovenian society. The data files include images (n=9) and textual materials (n=29) that were used by the author in the research as a supplement to an in-depth analysis of other content regarding the mentioned holidays in the article »Jugoslovenija: Slavljenje nekdanjih jugoslovanskih praznikov v sodobni Sloveniji«.

The research was conducted as part of the project "Holidays and the formation of a national community in Slovenia".
