Začetek: Avg. 11, 2008
Konec: Avg. 15, 2008
Kraj: Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA
Organizator: Inter-University consortium for political and social research
This five day workshop covers the basics of providing social science data
services and is especially relevant to individuals who are responsible for
providing local support for the ICPSR and other numeric research data. Through
discussion, hands-on computing exercises, and homework, participants will
evaluate appropriate levels of service for data in their local environments.
Experiences will be provided in searching for data, exploring documentation, and
using, extracting, and downloading data through Web-based retrieval tools.
Topics helpful in designing and planning data services will be discussed,
including institutional repositories, open access publishing, the open data
movement, and levels of data reference service. Throughout the workshop, an
emphasis will be placed on social science concepts and terminology related to
data and providing services for data, the life-cycle of data, practical
solutions to service delivery, and the international data service community.

Who Should Attend: Anyone who is new to providing services for numeric social
science data. This is not a statistics course and attendees are not expected to
know statistics.
