The study presents a continuation of the research entitled "Feelings of unsafety and the role of police in the provision of security on a local level, 2012" (https://doi.org/10.17898/ADP_VALOS12_V1) and "Safety and security in local communities, 2017" (https://doi.org/10.17898/ADP_VALOS17_V1). Modern policing emphasises a partnership relationship with local self-government and the local population. The research focuses on the correspondence between the views of police officers and residents regarding the role of municipalities and the police in ensuring security. The purpose of the study was to determine the opinion on ensuring security and protection, as well as perceptions of legitimacy among adult residents of 24 selected municipalities in Slovenia and the police officers who perform their work in these municipalities. The study was conducted in 2022 in urban, medium-sized (mixed) and rural municipalities. The same municipalities were covered in the research as in the previous implementation of the study. With the survey, the researchers examined perceptions of safety/security and security threats, tested the theory of community policing, and the active cooperation of the police, residents and municipalities in ensuring security. 463 police officers and 1,145 residents participated in the survey.
Research was conducted by researchers from Faculty of Criminal Justice and Security, University of Maribor.
