The secession of smaller territorial areas from larger states has been an issue for international order and stability ever since the state-based system was established. Borders have frequently been disputed by internal or external actors and states tend to see secessionism as a threat to their security, stability or existence. The goal of this research was to explore interconnections among secessionist situations in the Western Balkans. The main question was how different secession situations are linked and what indicates such links. Dataset contains quantitative assessments of linkages among selected secessionist situations in the Western Balkans, given by a group of selected experts from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Kosovo and Republic of North Macedonia (university professors, researchers, journalists, policy analysts and representatives of international organizations
The research was conducted under the auspices of the Defense Studies Research Centre of the Faculty of Social Sciences, UL and Princeton University, Department of Politics with a bilateral agreement between Slovenia and the USA, funded by the Slovenian Research Agency.
