The survey was conducted as one of the activities of the Free University week (15-19 April 2013). The aim of the study was to compare students of the University of Ljubljana (UL) within international exchange programmes (this survey) with foreign exchange students at UL (ADP_IDNo. IZMTUJ13) with respect to knowledge, skills and study conditions. The main purpose of this research is to fill a research gap in the area of monitoring international exchange in Slovenia (specifically at the UL), since none of the institutions related to the formulation or implementation of international student exchange perform collection of such data, let alone its analysis. The purpose of this database is to provide a comprehensive analysis of comparable domestic (UL) and foreign students according to their existing knowledge and skills necessary for the study and the one obtained through the study abroad, the study results and study conditions. The most ambitious goal of the research is to enable policy recommendations for improving the planning and implementation of international exchange programs (at the UL and generally in Slovenia) with the aim of raising the quality of internationalization of Slovenian higher education and at the same time the possibility of building education as a component of the country's soft power in international relations.
