After their virtual launch in May of this year, dr. Kati Mozygemba and dr. Tom Nicolai have now officially released their tool for anonymisation of qualitative data QualiAnon, which is free to use for any researcher who deals in preparation of text-based research materials.
The tool has been developed with participation of more than 200 researchers worldwide who work in different disciplines. It allows the user to highlight words, sentences or whole paragraphs and then replace them with text that abstracts the highlighted passage on different levels. It also allows creation of standardised lists, which allow faster and easier workflow. Each replacement is documented which then allows the export of varying levels of sensitivity.
The materials form the event can be accessed in English and German. When accessing the tool, the user is also provided with a manual and the source code. If you wish to test the tool contact qualianon@uni-bremen.de.
