Use of Artificial Intelligence in ADP Data Analysis
Users of data from the Social Science Data Archives (ADP) must observe the following rule when using artificial intelligence:
Prohibition of Using Public Online AI Tools
Data labeled as SUF (Scientific Use File), which users download from ADP, must not be processed or uploaded to publicly accessible online AI tools where data is transferred to the service provider’s external servers.
Such tools include, in particular, AI systems that operate via the web and where the user does not have control over the storage or further use of the submitted data.
Permitted Use of Local or Secure Systems
The use of artificial intelligence is permitted when:
- the analysis is performed locally on the user’s computer, or
- institutional or otherwise secure infrastructure is used, where the data does not leave the controlled environment of the user or institution.
In such cases, the user must still ensure appropriate data protection and comply with the ADP data usage conditions.
Purpose of the Rule
This rule is intended to protect data confidentiality and to prevent uncontrolled transfer of research data to external information systems.
