The planning and analysis of complex sample surveys, especially if it done in many different countries with more or less the same instrument, has become a challenging task. Although the problems of conducting fieldwork are increasing, advances in survey methodology and data analysis allow coping with the problems of survey research in modern societies across Europe. The workshop will concentrate on major problems of data quality like cross-culture equivalence, comparative survey design and nonresponse. The problems will be illustrated with recent data sets like the ESS and Victimization surveys. Analysis of data sets with complex sample designs, nonresponse and missing data will be demonstrated in hands-on computer based tutorials....
