Key words: ageing, dementia, care of dependants, employees, informal caregiving, employed caregivers

In the study, which forms part of a larger project entitled "Translational research on multi-target compounds for the treatment of neurodegenerative and mental diseases", an online survey was conducted to investigate ageing and elderly care, with a focus on neurodegenerative diseases. The aim was to determine a) how beliefs and attitudes towards neurodegenerative diseases are formed and b) knowledge and attitudes towards treatment, as well as the care and financial burdens these diseases place on older people and their caregivers. A total of 1,942 residents of the Republic of Slovenia aged 18 or older were invited to participate in the study. Of these, n = 427 were panelists from the probability-based 1KA online panel who had confirmed caregiver status for older persons—this group included all participants from the 5th wave of the 1KA panel conducted in June 2024 (Metodološko poročilo – Anketa o uporabi interneta in aktualnih družbenih vprašanjih, 2024) who indicated that they were caregivers. An additional n = 1,515 randomly selected panelists from the probability-based 1KA online panel were included, with the selection reflecting the population distribution by gender, age, region, and type of settlement.
